Jefferson County Court is where the misdemeanor cases DUI and DWAI are handled.

Arraignment: Jefferson County uses a system where the Defendant’s first court date is held on the first floor in the Duty Court. This is a court designed to allow people to plead guilty who do not want a lawyer and who have a low-level case like speeding. This court is held at in the 1:15 p.m. afternoon. While sometimes lawyers are able to waive their client’s appearance and just set the case into a Trial Court Division without having to go to Arraignment. More and more though judges are requiring the Client and/or the lawyer to appear at Duty Court.

Trial Court Divisions: In the Jefferson County Courthouse there are at least seven County Court criminal trial courts that I go to.
